15 in Flagler Village, according to its website, with a fifth to follow in Aventura on Dec. The Cheesecake Factory-owned restaurant is slated to debut its fourth Florida location on Nov. Just when we thought the Cheesecake Factory’s menu already served every pasta dish conceivable, here comes North Italia, a casual chain devoted to wood-fired pizzas, grilled branzino and other Italian fare. A hub for fresh local fish and greens (they source from Triar Seafood in Hollywood and Swank Specialty Produce in Loxahatchee), the second location will serve stone crabs and house-smoked fish dip, beer-battered spiny lobster bites and conch beignets, and larger entrees including an adult crab grilled cheese (with brie, truffle, blue crab and apple butter), clams carbonara and grilled local swordfish. This is the owners’ second foray into Fort Lauderdale: the flagship Even Keel began its life on North Federal Highway under the mast of restaurateur James Dean Max before it jumped ship to Lauderdale-by-the-Sea in late 2020. The focus, of course, will be brisket by the pound and in sandwich form from hospitality veteran Kevin Rodriguez (The Doral Yard food hall) and pitmaster Orelle Young (The Beast by Todd English in Las Vegas), who competed earlier this year on Food Network Canada’s barbecue competition series “Fire Masters.” The 45-seat counter will also turn out ribs, chicken, pulled pork and turkey, along with sides of mac ‘n’ cheese, baked beans, potato salad, coleslaw and cornbread. This 2,500-square-foot pit stop devoted to Texas-style barbecue will smoke up Sistrunk Boulevard sometime this November. The restaurant joins outposts in Boca Raton (which debuted in May), North Miami and Davie. The restaurant will specialize in dumplings of every ilk - xiaolongbao, pan-fried and steamed - along with noodle and rice bowls, scallion pancakes and squid salad, and dim sum from shrimp siu mai to braised chicken feet. Registered to franchisee Yang Ruyun, the shop expects to debut this winter in the Plantation Commons strip mall. So for our California expatriates, yes, you can get great Dim Sum in Las Vegas.Replacing the former “fast-fine” restaurant Ovlo Eats, which shuttered earlier this year, is the fourth South Florida location of this dumpling franchise. All that food, plus a couple of teas and steamed pork buns for him for $25.Possibly one of the best lunch deals in town. Our favorite is the Pan Fried Chive Dumplings, but we also loved the Har Gow (shrimp dumplings), Shiu Mai (pork & shrimp dumplings), the Bean Curd Roll and the noodles. And, while dim sum is traditionally served only until early or mid-afternoon in most restaurants, Orchids now offers the delicacies all day long.Īfter years of dining at Orchids Garden, we found today's service to be quick and the food was excellent. Before the article about dim sum was published, the place was busy but after the article it was so busy they had to start using both rooms. That changed a few years ago after the Las Vegas Review Journal posted an article by their food critic about the various dim sum restaurants in town. When we first discovered Orchids, they only used one side of the restaurant for dim sum and lunch. We did get a seat without having to wait. As we expected, their parking lot was full when we arrived for lunch. With so many restaurants to choose from, we haven't been to Orchids recently until today. It wasn't long before someone turned me on to Orchids Garden on W. Having discovered that he liked dim sum, I was determined to find the real deal if it existed in Las Vegas. Should have seen his face when he got the check and it was a fraction of what we'd been spending in other restaurants. The first time I took my boyfriend to San Francisco, he had never tried dim sum before and looked on with dismay as I ordered half a dozen dishes for us to taste ( he was buying). While living in San Francisco, I had grown spoiled by the variety of restaurants that served this traditional Chinese "snack" food. Finding dim sum in Las Vegas was not that easy when I first moved here ten years ago.
